Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) Therapy is a non-medication, non-invasive FDA approved treatment for depression. TMS therapy uses magnetic pulses to stimulate areas of the brain that control the mood, and other psychiatric and neurologic symptoms.
TMS does not require anesthesia and is well tolerated as compared to the side effects often seen with medications and ECT. The most common side effect is headache during or after treatment.
TMS has also shown efficacy in treating the following conditions:
Standard treatment consists of 30 sessions over 4 to 6 weeks. Patients are able to perform their daily activities, including driving, after each session. Patients may eventually be taken off their medications after completion of treatment.
TMS shows a statistically and clinically meaningful durability of acute benefit over 12 months of follow-up
